Families receiving government support

From the term after your child turns two, you may be able to claim 15 hours a week early education and childcare up to a maximum of 570 hours per year, funded by the government.

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Universal Credit - if you and your partner are on a low income from work (this usually means a combined income of less than £15,400 a year after tax)
  • the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit (or both), and your household income is £16,190 a year or less before tax

Working Families

For eligible working families in England there is now available:

  • Up to 15 hours of early education over 38 weeks of the year for 2 year olds.
  • Up to 30 hours of early education over 38 weeks of the year for 3-4 year olds.
